The Aeropress works in a similar way to a French Press. Made of food-safe plastic the Aeropress acts as a big syringe. Water and coffee to go into the lower chamber. A paper filter is placed in the cap. Then after 30-45 seconds of brewing time, the plunger is pushed down and this forces the water through the coffee and the paper filter resulting in a very smooth, full flavoured brew.

We found the best way to prepare coffee in the AeroPress as follows:
  • Add 1 scoop or 14g of freshly ground coffee. You need it ground finer than French Press but courser than Espresso a drip grind would be perfect.
  • Boil fresh water and wait 60 seconds before putting water onto coffee 85C is ideal.
  • Add water to about 15mm below the rim
  • Stir for 10 seconds
  • Add a touch more hot water to top up then plunge the Aeropress slowly! You can then add some more hot water if you wish, place in a travel mug and off you go!!

Brilliant gift

Bought as Xmas present for husband, way better than expected. Makes a genuinely lovely black coffee

Worth it

I take my AP to work everyday and use it at least twice a day. It's important to get the grind right so read up on that. The papers it comes with are useful and make clean out easier because you can just eject a complete puck. I also have the ten mile SS filter and this is great for cutting out on bulky packets of filters.

Whilst it's not expresso in the same way as my home machine makes, it never will be, it does make some of the best manual coffee in the fastest time I know
